Statement from MD Dem Chair, Kathleen Matthews

Posted 14 October 2018

Dear Friend,

Maryland politics has hit a new low in recent weeks with Larry Hogan’s ads attacking Ben Jealous for struggling to overcome his stutter.

With Donald Trump lowering the bar of political discourse to new lows every day, our state needs a governor with the courage to stand up to the President—not join him.

Instead of mocking Ben’s stutter, Larry Hogan should be focused on helping the people of Maryland by finally releasing a plan to improve our education system, lower healthcare costs for Maryland families, and grow jobs in Maryland.

Will you sign your name to call on Larry Hogan to stop his bullying?

Ben has never allowed his stutter to stand in the way of standing up for civil rights or people with challenges.  He knows that there’s a generation of young people living with a stutter and other disabilities who have a role model in him to see that they can live a life without limitations.

While Larry Hogan continues to go low, we go high by leading with the power of our ideas. We believe that this campaign should be about moving Maryland forward and making our state a more inclusive place for everyone—not petty, divisive politics.

I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this inspirational movement. Today, let’s send a message to Larry Hogan and the Republican party by standing up to bullying and bigotry. With your help, I know we can make our voices heard.

Stand with us against Larry Hogan’s bullying.
