Another Election Day is behind us. The numbers are still trickling in as absentee and provisional ballots are being counted, so watch for a more detailed analysis of the results in the next couple of weeks. But we have some comments on the process and outcomes.
The Calvert County Democratic Central Committee would like to express our deep gratitude to every candidate who got out there and ran. We appreciate your commitment to our county and your desire to make it a better place to live and work. We know how taxing running a campaign is. You all worked hard for the opportunity to serve your community. We thank you!
Congratulations to our elected candidates: Senator Mike Miller, Delegate Mike Jackson, Register of Wills Margaret Phipps, and Clerk of the Court Kathy Smith. We wish you all the best in your next term of service.
For those that didn't gain enough ground to win this year, please take heart that your respective campaigns made incredible headway. Each of you started with an enormous uphill battle, and each of you managed to narrow that gap between you and your opponents from 2014 to this election - some of you nearly closed it. We’ll get more in-depth on the specific numbers in the coming weeks, but for right now: be proud that you worked hard, you maintained your composure and integrity, you gained a lot of ground, and we're confident you'll be back. We are proud of you.
We also want to thank all the volunteers that helped us and the candidates throughout the election cycle. Attempting to reach out to every eligible voter in Calvert County and let them know that our candidates provide the best option is no small task, and you came through fully. We couldn't do it alone, but with a bunch of enthusiastic achievers like you, we didn't have to. We hope you'll continue to work with us as we prepare for the next election.
And finally, thank you to everyone who voted. Voting is where the rubber meets the road and the single most important thing we need. We thank each and every citizen who turned out to participate in their government and make their voice heard.
These last two years have been intense, and we've all pitched in and built out a solid infrastructure for the future. We didn't cross that finish line this time, but we have made great headway, and we are sure we can build on that going forward. We look forward to continue working with you as we strive to make Calvert County the best that we can be.
