THE DEMOCRATIC CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF CALVERT COUNTY WILL CONVENE AN IN-PERSON SPECIAL PUBLIC HEARING TO INTERVIEW CANDIDATES FOR THE DISTRICT 27 MARYLAND STATE SENATE VACANCY ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2025 AT 10:00 AM AT THE PRINCE FREDERICK LIBRARY.
The Democratic Central Committee of Calvert County will convene a special public hearing on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to interview candidates for the District 27 Maryland State Senate Vacancy that was created by the resignation of Senator Michael A. Jackson submitted on November 7, 2025 to be effective on November 11, 2025.
Pursuant to the Democratic Central Committee of Calvert County Bylaws Article II Responsibility Section 2.3.1, the Central Committee shall present the name of a candidate as required by law to the Governor for appointment.
The Governor shall appoint a person to fill such vacancy from a person whose name shall be submitted to him/her in writing within thirty (30) days after the occurrence of the vacancy from the legislative district from which the Senator or Delegate was elected or appointed, provided that the appointee shall be a member of the Democratic Party living in the legislative district at the time of the last election or appointment of the vacating Senator or Delegate. It shall be the duty of the Governor to make said appointment within fifteen (15) days after the submission thereof to him/her. If the vacancy occurs in a district which has boundaries comprising a portion or all of two or more counties, the Central Committee of each county involved shall have one vote for submitting the name of a resident of the district. If there is a tie vote between or among the Central Committees, the list of proposed names shall be submitted to the Governor, and he/she shall make the appointment from the list.
Eligibility Requirements and Instructions for Candidate Filing:
Must be a registered voter and reside in the district where the vacancy occurred.
Must reside in the 27th Legislative District in either Calvert, Charles, or Prince George’s Counties.

Incomplete packets and packets received after the deadline will not be accepted.
The public hearing will proceed as follows:
Candidates will speak in alphabetical order, 2 minutes per candidate
Candidates may have no more than 2 people speak on their behalf - 2 minutes each
Speakers may not transfer their time to another speaker
Members of the Central Committee will then have the opportunity to ask questions of the Candidates.
Members of the public are invited to attend the special hearing.
